The Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center
The Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center is a complex with various amenities, including tourist facilities. It is located right in front of the Kaminarimon Gate of Sensoji Temple.
One of its highlights is the free observation terrace on the 8th floor, where you can enjoy a great view of Tokyo Skytree over the Sumida River.
The terrace is open from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM, but please note that tripods are not allowed.
Kaminarimon-dori Street
Kaminarimon-dori Street runs east to west in front of Kaminarimon Gate of Sensoji Temple. At its eastern end is Azumabashi Bridge, which offers a great view of Tokyo Skytree.
One of the best photo spots on this street is at the intersection in front of Kaminarimon Gate. From here, you can capture photos of Tokyo Skytree, the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center, and the Asahi Group HQ building.
Azuma-bashi Bridge
Azuma-bashi Bridge spans the Sumida River, connecting Taito City and Sumida City.
From the Taito City side, you can take photos of Tokyo Skytree, the Asahi Beer HQ building, and the Asahi Flame (a gigantic golden object).
This area is well-known, as it was featured several times in the anime “Kageki Shoujo!!”
The Sumida River Terrace
The Sumida River Terrace is a promenade on both sides of the Sumida River.
From the Taito City side, you can get a great view of Tokyo Skytree, especially between Azuma-bashi Bridge and Sakura-bashi Bridge.
The photo above was taken from the Sumida River Terrace near the Tobu Isesaki Line (Tobu Skytree Line) tracks, about a two-minute walk upstream from Azuma-bashi.
The second photo was taken of the Asahi Group Headquarters from this location. Here, you can capture Tokyo Skytree reflected in the building.
This spot is also great for night photography. Depending on the timing, you can capture a train, Tokyo Skytree, and a houseboat in one shot.
Sensoji Temple
Sensoji Temple is the oldest Buddhist temple in Tokyo and a major tourist attraction in the Asakusa area.
From the temple’s precincts, you can capture photos of the historic buildings with Tokyo Skytree in the background.
The photo above was taken from Okuyamamon Gate, where you can shoot the five-story pagoda and Tokyo Skytree together.
The second photo above was taken from Hozomon Gate, where the lower half of Tokyo Skytree is hidden from view.
The Viewpoint at Sumida Park (Taito City Side)
Sumida Park (Taito City side) features a square that offers a great viewpoint for Tokyo Skytree, located between Azuma-bashi Bridge and Kototoi-bashi Bridge.
From this square, you can get a clear view of Tokyo Skytree and take a full-length photo of the tower without needing a wide-angle lens.
There is also a Tully’s Coffee in this square. We recommend enjoying the view of Tokyo Skytree from inside the store or from the terrace seats.
Kototoi-bashi Bridge
Kototoi-bashi Bridge is located upstream from Azuma-bashi Bridge.
From Kototoi-bashi Bridge, you have an unobstructed view of Tokyo Skytree directly ahead, making it a perfect spot for capturing the entire tower in a photo.
The first photo above was taken on the sidewalk at the Kototoi-bashi West intersection. I recommend taking long-exposure shots at night here to capture the car taillights along with Tokyo Skytree in the background.
The second photo above was taken from Kototoi-bashi Bridge. You can also enjoy a clear view of Tokyo Skytree directly ahead.
