Since the Asakusa area of Taito City is within walking distance from the Oshiage area, you can enjoy great views of this 634-meter tall tower.

In this article, we’ll share 14 amazing views of Tokyo Skytree. Make sure to check them out when planning your visit!

The Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center

The Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center is a multi-purpose building that offers various services for visitors. It’s conveniently located right in front of the Kaminarimon Gate of Sensoji Temple.

One of the main attractions is the observation terrace on the 8th floor, which is free to access. From here, you can enjoy stunning views of Tokyo Skytree and the Sumida River.

The terrace is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., but please note that tripods are not permitted.

Kaminarimon-dori Street

Kaminarimon-dori Street goes from east to west in front of the Kaminarimon Gate at Sensoji Temple. At the eastern end, you’ll find Azumabashi Bridge, which provides another fantastic view of Tokyo Skytree.

A great photo spot on this street is at the intersection in front of Kaminarimon Gate. From here, you can take pictures of Tokyo Skytree, the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center, and the Asahi Group HQ building.

Azumabashi Bridge

Azumabashi Bridge connects Taito City and Sumida City over the Sumida River.

From the Taito City side of Azumabashi Bridge, you can take photos of Tokyo Skytree, the Asahi Beer Headquarters Building, and the golden flame-shaped sculpture.

This area is also featured several times in the anime “Kageki Shoujo!!,” so many people might recognize it.

Sumida River Terrace

The Sumida River Terrace is a walkway along both sides of the Sumida River.

From the Taito City side of the Sumida River Terrace, you can get a great view of Tokyo Skytree. Especially between Azumabashi Bridge and Sakura Bridge, you can see Tokyo Skytree up close.

The best spot is between Azumabashi Bridge and the Tobu Isesaki Line (Tobu Skytree Line) tracks.

Here, you can take photos of trains with Tokyo Skytree in the background. You can also capture the reflection of Tokyo Skytree in the Asahi Group Headquarters Building.

This spot is also great for nighttime photography. At the right moment, you can take pictures of the train, Tokyo Skytree, and a yakatabune (traditional Japanese boat) all in one shot.

Sensoji Temple

Sensoji Temple is the oldest Buddhist temple in Tokyo and a must-see for anyone visiting Asakusa.

You can see Tokyo Skytree from the temple grounds, making it a great spot to capture photos of the historical buildings with the modern tower in the background.

In front of the Okuyamamon Gate, you can take pictures of the Five-Story Pagoda with Tokyo Skytree.

The Hozomon Gate is also a great photo spot, where you can capture Tokyo Skytree with the giant gate and its large straw sandals.

Sumida Park Observation Plaza

The Observation Plaza in Sumida Park is a spacious area located between Azumabashi Bridge and Kototoibashi Bridge in Taito City.

You can get a great view of Tokyo Skytree from this plaza. And you don’t even need a wide-angle lens to capture the entire tower from here.

There’s also a Tully’s Coffee at this observation plaza. The view of Tokyo Skytree from inside the café or its terrace seating is highly recommended.

Kototoibashi Bridge

Kototoibashi Bridge is located just upstream from Azumabashi Bridge.

From Kototoibashi Bridge, you get a direct view of Tokyo Skytree. There are no obstructions, so you can capture the entire tower in your photos.

The sidewalk at the Kototoibashi West intersection is a highly recommended spot. At night, you can use a slow shutter to photograph the car tail lights with Tokyo Skytree in the background.

Sumida Park, next to Kototoibashi Bridge, is also a great spot. Between Kototoibashi Bridge and Sakura Bridge, you can take photos of the cherry trees with Tokyo Skytree in the background.

Sakurabashi Bridge

Sakurabashi Bridge is a pedestrian-only bridge located just upstream from Kototoibashi Bridge.

This bridge is unique because of its X-shaped design. It’s also famous as a filming location for movies and TV dramas.

On the bridge, there are two conical shaped monuments that feature flying cranes. It’s interesting to take photos of these monuments with Tokyo Skytree in the background.

You can also take photos of Tokyo Skytree from under the bridge. The X-shaped design of the bridge creates a bold curve that looks great with Tokyo Skytree.

Sanyabori Park

Sanyabori Park is located between Matsuchiyama Shoden Temple and Imado Shrine, which are part of the Seven Lucky Gods of Asakusa.

The park has many statues, including maneki-neko (beckoning cats) and kappa (mythical water creatures). You can take pictures of these statues with Tokyo Skytree in the background.

Sanyabori Park is also a famous spot for cherry blossoms. During cherry blossom season, you can capture photos of the flowers with Tokyo Skytree in the background.

Matsuchiyama Shoden Temple

Matsuchiyama Shoden Temple is a Buddhist temple located about a 3-minute walk from Kototoibashi Bridge.

The temple has a Japanese garden that visitors can explore for free. The garden is open from 7:00 a.m to 4:30 p.m.

You can also see Tokyo Skytree from the Japanese garden. However, it might be a bit challenging to frame your shots because of the many trees planted around.

Denboin-dori Street

Denboin Street is a shopping street that crosses Asakusa Nakamise Street at Sensoji Temple from east to west.

You can see Tokyo Skytree from this street, making it a great spot to capture photos of the retro-style shopping street with the modern tower in the background.

The intersection of Denboin Street and Asakusa Nakamise Street is especially popular with tourists who stop to take photos of Tokyo Skytree.

Makurabashi Bridge

Makurabashi Bridge is a small bridge over the Kitajukken River. From here, you can take photos of Tokyo Skytree reflected on the river’s surface.

Along the river, there’s a shopping complex called Tokyo Mizumachi. Above it runs the Tobu Isesaki Line (also known as the Tobu Skytree Line), offering a great opportunity to capture shots of the train with Tokyo Skytree in the background.

If you’re coming from the Taito City side, the Sumida River Walk is an easy and convenient way to get to Makurabashi Bridge or Tokyo Mizumachi. Both are located just in front of the River Walk’s exit on the Sumida City side.

Ushijima Shrine

Ushijima Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in a corner of Sumida Park, on the Sumida City side.

In winter, you can take photos of Tokyo Skytree with koma-inu (guardian lion-dogs) at Ushijima Shrine. However, from spring to autumn, the leaves of the ginkgo trees behind the lion-dogs may obscure the view of Tokyo Skytree.

Additionally, from the side of Ushijima Shrine’s grounds, you can capture photos of Tokyo Skytree framed by the torii gate. This spot comes highly recommended.

Kome Ushijima-dori Street

Koume-Ushijima-dori Street is a narrow road that stretches from Sumida Park (on the Sumida City side) to Tokyo Skytree. From this street, you can enjoy a direct view of Tokyo Skytree.

To start, we recommend you to take a photo of Koume-Ushijima Street from Sumida Park. You can capture a picture of Tokyo Skytree framed at the end of the narrow road between the buildings.

Essentially, every spot along Koume-Ushijima Street is a great place to photograph Tokyo Skytree. Since the Skytree is directly in front, you can create photos with a radial composition.
