Megurin is a community bus operated by Taito Ward of Tokyo. As of September 2021, Megurin runs five routes in Taito Ward and partially in Bunkyo Ward of Tokyo. So Megurin lets you visit almost everywhere in Taito Ward. Moreover, the bus fare is reasonable. It’s only 100 Yen per ride, and a one-day ticket is also available for 300 Yen.

What is Megurin?

  • 1,000 Yen bill is accepted when you pay the bus fare for 100 Yen; 5,000 Yen or 10,000 yen bull are accepted.
  • You can use prepaid IC cards such as Suica and PASMO to pay the fare (100 Yen).
  • A one-day ticket is available for 300 Yen; you can take any routes of Megurin bus at any extra cost on a day.
  • You can purchase a one-day ticket on the bus, but you cannot use prepaid IC cards to buy one.

Why Do We Recommend Megurin?

  • It’s easy to try. The bus fare is only 100 Yen per ride, and it runs every 15 to 20 minutes.
  • The view from the bus is impressive. Megurin is a mostly microbus that runs relatively narrow streets of residential areas. So you can enjoy the view which typical tour buses won’t let you.
  • It’s an excellent way to make a pilgrimage to the Seven Lucky Gods of Asakusa or Shitaya. Megurin stops all Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples that belong to such the seven lucky gods.

The Routes of Megurin

As of September 2021, Megurin has the following five routes.

The South Route

Megurin South Route is a microbus featuring green and yellow. Starting from Ueno Station, it runs counterclockwise in the southern part of Taito Ward. Thus, you can visit typical of Taito Ward, such as Kappabashi Kitchen Town, Ueno, and Kuramae.

The North Route

Megurin North Route is a microbus featuring red and green. As its name indicates, this Megurin runs in the northern part of Taito Ward. As of October 2021, there are two Megurin North Route. The first one runs counterclockwise in the northwestern part of Taito Ward. And the other one runs in the northeastern part of Taito Ward.

The North Route (Negishi)

Megurin North Route (Negishi) is a microbus featuring red and green. Starting from Taito Hospital, it runs counterclockwise in the northwestern part of Taito Ward. Thus, you can visit all Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples of the Seven Lucky Gods of Shitaya. You also can visit many places related to Ichiyo Higuchi, a female writer from the Meiji Period.

The North Route (Asakusa)

Megurin North Route (Asakusa) is a microbus featuring red and green. Starting from Asakusa Station on Tobu Isesaki Line, it runs counterclockwise in the northeastern part of Taito Ward. You can visit Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples of the Seven Lucky Gods of Asakusa, except Yasaki Inari Shrine. You also can visit many places related to Ichiyo Higuchi, a female writer from the Meiji Period.

The East-West Route

Megurin East-West Route is a microbus featuring wine red and cream color. As its name indicates, it runs in the eastern and western parts of Taito Ward. As of October 2021, there are two Megurin East-West Route. The first one goes to Ueno Park. The other one goes to Uguisudani Station.

The East-West Route (Ueno Park)

Starting from Taito Ward Office, Megurin East-West Route (Ueno Park) runs counterclockwise Ueno Station, Ueno Park, Yanaka, Sendagi, Shinobazu Pond. After returning to Taito Ward Office once, it runs Ueno, Kappabashi Kitchen Town, Asakusa, Kuramae, and Shin-Okachimachi.

The East-West Route (Uguisudani Station)

Starting from Taito Ward Office, Megurin East-West Route (Uguisudani Station) runs counterclockwise Ueno Station, Uguisudani Station, Yanaka, Sendagi, Nezu, Shinobazu Pond. After returning to Taito Ward Office once, it runs Ueno, Kappabashi Kitchen Town, Asakusa, Kuramae, and Shin-Okachimachi.

The North-South Route

Megurin North-South Route (also known as Gururi Megurin) is a medium-sized bus featuring blue and cream colors. Starting from the Iriya exit of Ueno station, it runs clockwise throughout Taito Ward.
